El evento redefinió el concepto de la moda centrándose en la herencia cultural y en la toma de decisiones más conscientes en los ámbitos sociales y sostenibles.

En una exhibición sin precedentes, WEYA 2023 ha marcado el pulso de una nueva era para la moda sostenible en América Latina. Este encuentro, que tuvo lugar en el Museo Antropológico de Arte Contemporáneo (MAAC) en Guayaquil, Ecuador, no solo ha sido una plataforma para los talentos emergentes (artesanos y diseñadores), sino también un foro de diálogo para líderes de pensamiento en la industria.

Con un cronograma lleno de actividades, WEYA ofreció experiencias únicas que fueron desde conferencias, workshops de co-creación artesanal, panel de economía circular, diseño a partir de residuos orgánicos, y otros, finalizó con una exhibición en movimiento; La colombiana Valentina Suárez, directora de Universo Mola, en su intervención sobre Moda Ética y Sostenible en América Latina, destacó que el 85% de los textiles en el mundo encuentran su destino final en vertederos y para el 2030 esto generará más de 134 millones de toneladas de desechos, enfatizando que ya es hora de cambiar la mirada y ser más conscientes en nuestros hábitos de consumo.

ARTESANOS, DISEÑADORES Y SPEAKERS: MÁS ALLÁ DE LA MODA CONVENCIONAL

37 proyectos de artesanos y diseñadores ecuatorianos fueron seleccionados para ser parte de WEYA, presentaron obras únicas que contaban historias más allá de la moda convencional. En este programa se hicieron presentes expertos como José Miguel Valdivia, Diseñador de Moda peruano, quien en el workshop co-creación artesanal y su internacionalización, instó a revalorizar la artesanía local, elevándola al nivel de lujo y destacando la identidad única en cada creación.

Walter Rodríguez, coordinador del Centro de Investigación y Diseño de Inspiramais Brasil, quien desafía la idea arraigada de que lo extranjero es siempre superior, destacó la necesidad de cambiar la narrativa, centrándose en la naturaleza, historias familiares, tradiciones y patrimonios culturales como clave para una transformación real en la moda.

José Forteza, Editor Senior de Vogue LATAM, resaltó la importancia de WEYA como un “megáfono para la moda sostenible”, ampliando la discusión sobre los temas que definirán el futuro de la industria.

Karla Paredes, directora creativa de WEYA, enfatizó que el propósito del evento se basó bajo el concepto “Orígenes”, y desde ahí ofrecer una guía práctica y un marco de referencia para aquellos en el proceso de creación de productos. Los 37 artesanos y diseñadores seleccionados se beneficiaron de una serie de charlas y asesorías personalizadas, promoviendo así un renacimiento de su espíritu creativo y fortaleciendo vínculos con las tradiciones y la estructura comunitaria de los grupos artesanales.

Ana Andrade de Cuenca abrió el desfile con su “Vestido de Red”, seguido de Gisela Cisternas de Quito, que presentó los “Aretes de la Fiesta de la Jora”. Este flujo de talento continuó con AMA, la Asociación de Mujeres Agroartesanales de El Oro, y la artista Gisella de Chávez de Guayaquil, que reinterpretó el antiguo Ecuador.

“La creación de alianzas y la construcción de relaciones sólidas es el tejido que fortalecerá la moda ética globalmente”, enfatizó Bianca Dager, CEO de WEYA quien además cerró el evento honrando a todos los artesanos y diseñadores, quienes subieron al escenario para recibir un merecido agradecimiento y aplausos de todo el público. Este momento fue un poderoso recordatorio de la dedicación y el talento que han impulsado a la moda ecuatoriana a la vanguardia de la sostenibilidad y la ética.

El apoyo de la Empresa Pública de Turismo y Cultura, Club Premium, Tetra Pak y LATAM fue realmente fundamental en la realización de WEYA. Estas organizaciones compartieron el espíritu de innovación y sostenibilidad del evento. Entre los proyectos destacados que expusieron sus proyectos fueron “Segundo Vuelo” de la compañía aérea y las iniciativas de reciclaje de Tetra Pak que alcanzó en Ecuador una tasa de recuperación del 31%, equivalente a 186 millones de envases reciclados. Estos y más son ejemplos vivos de un compromiso con el medio ambiente.

“MIA Foundazion X Passarellas” logró unir en Art Basel Miami a colecciones de COLLINI Milano, Brenda Noy, Sense of G y Giannina Azar. reconocidos por sus desfiles en grandes pasarelas internacionales y por vestir a celebridades como Beyoncé, Thalía, Jennifer López, Britney Spears o Maluma, con el propósito de iluminar los destinos de los niños en situación de abandono.

En el caso de COLLINI, la colección estuvo representada por diez looks especiales que exaltaron formas, estilos y tonos intensos de ámbar, y dedicados al deslumbrante Miami Sunset.

La colección Noir X Giannina Azar fue un tributo al color de la elegancia. Su principal ingrediente es la reinvención y “siempre estar de la mano de Dios”. La diseñadora dominicana contó con 15 modelos, entre ellas la hermosa Zuleyka Rivera como protagonista.

Sense of G presenta una nueva colección inspirada en los años 90, década icónica en la moda, donde surgieron nuevos cambios de estilos y tendencias, dándole la bienvenida al Denim.

“Las rebeldes de los años 90 han regresado como un flashback de la época, pero esta vez resaltando las curvas de cada mujer de una manera más relajada y a su vez un poco atrevida, saliendo de su zona de confort con un estilo extremadamente atractivo y que todas puedan sentirse seguras y bellas en sus días de sol”, explicó Aleska Génesis

Brenda Noy exhibió la colección “Bajo el hechizo de una rosa naciendo”, inspirada en el encanto visual de una rosa en cualquiera de sus colores, floreciendo en una mañana de primavera, para “destacar a una mujer segura, enigmática, elegante, vanguardista y discreta”.

Entre las modelos de lujo que acompañaron estas pasarelas se encontraban Zuleyka Rivera, Vanesa Velázquez, Wiola Gaida, Victoria Skye, Valeria Morales y Natalia Naritnik.

Los artistas plásticos Ivonne Mixmedia y Binho Ribeiro pintaron en vivo en el evento, y Zevi G expuso sus grandiosas esculturas.

Bárbara Castellanos, líder de la organización Passarellas, agradeció a todos los participantes y los invitó a continuar con la magia de la moda y el arte para ayudar a transformar el mundo.

Michell Roxana, presidenta de MIA Foundazion, compartió el verdadero propósito: cada centavo recaudado se destina a esos niños de la calle que anhelan amor y apoyo.

– South Africa wrapped up Heritage Month with an international pageant that celebrates the world’s culture and heritage. On the 24^th of September 2022, Haiti-born Abigail Pierre-Louis was crowned as Miss Heritage Global Queen for 2022 at the prestigious pageant in Limpopo, Kalahari Waterfront.

The Miss Heritage Global event had over 30 contestants from different countries competing for the title of Miss Heritage Global 2022 title and representing her home country and culture Haiti, Abigail took it home. Representing Zimbabwe was Eva Mzondiwa who came as the first runner-up and representing South Africa was Zabelo Hlabisa who came as second runner-up.

“Being crowned as Miss Heritage Global 2022 is a huge honour for me and my beautiful country- Haiti. I am very passionate about the advancement of Haiti and even more excited to be able to be a connecting force for countries around the world. Miss Heritage Global has a lot of potential to fulfill its mission worldwide, and I am excited to help people learn about themselves and each other, and see the beauty in our differences as we united under this organisation. I am looking forward to making a change and a positive impact. The world doesn’t know what’s coming but with the Miss Heritage Global name, we will bring to light the beauty of individuals worldwide,” said the newly Miss Heritage Global 2022 – Abigail Pierre-Louis.

The Miss Heritage Global pageant that celebrates and showcases the world’s culture was hosted by actress and media personality Khanyi Mbau and comedian Mpho Popps. South African musician Master KG opened the event with his hit song, Jerusalema with additional artist performances by Lady Du, Paige RSA and a grand closing performance by Makhadzi.

During the event, Mpho Popps who’s known for his comedy skits dramatically walked away from the stage pretending to return an envelope that contained the names of the top 3 contestants back to the judges.

Mrs Mbofholowo Mbodi, CEO of Miss Heritage Global words to the newly crowned queen: “The things that make us different are the very same things that make us the same. For loving yourself and representing those who came before you, you are the true definition of a queen. May you continue to hold your flag high up and show those who come after you that you cannot know who you are if you do not know where you come from. Congratulations once again Abigail and we’re proud to have you as our Miss Heritage Global 2022 Queen.”

The pageant had a diverse judging panel from both local and international, including former Miss South Africa 2020 Shudufhadzo Musida, Alina Castillo who is former Miss Heritage Costa Rica 2019, Elizabeth Ortiz who is continental Director for Latin America and Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Ghana Tourism Development Company to name a few.

Abigail Pierre, with roots lying in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, will compete for the international title of Miss Heritage Global 2022. Her family emigrated from Haiti to the United States. She was the first of her generation to graduate from college in the States, receiving a degree in International Marketing and a minor in Spanish, a multicultural certificate from the University of Missouri, and a business strategy certificate from Cornell University.

Abigail has always been involved in her local community as well as volunteer organizations like Youth United Way and HOHAYE (Hope for American and Haitian Youth and Elderly). She is proud of her  Haitian culture and her impact has been felt since she was a young girl and now with her podcast, called “The Homegirl Hustlers” which is a platform that guides any “hard worker” to pursue their passion without limits. While running a Digital Marketing Agency “Boost Your Brand” Abigail has been driven to assist her hometown in Haiti citizens to become entrepreneurs regardless of their outside factors and obstacles.

She holds a degree in public accounting with a concentration in international trades, she currently works as a financial analyst for a firm. She enjoys spending her free time with her family and as an animal lover, she advocates for animal rights.

In addition, Kimberly participates in animal rescue groups, while taking care of her three puppies named,  Rodrigo, Frida and Willy.

Camila’s  family is what she values the most in her life, her parents and her two brothers are her mentors and great role models.
