Puerto Rican salsa band Conjunto Sabrosura, led by former Cuban wrestler Ihosvany Negret, will compete this week for the best record award in the category of World Music at the 2016 International Cubadisco Fair.
The nomination of “Hecho en Puerto Rico,” the group’s second album, “is already like an award because it recognizes that it is the perfect musical combination” of the two Caribbean islands, Negret told MLM.
“This certifies our Puerto Rican artistic project’s highest quality,” Negret said.
Conjunto Sabrosura’s album will compete with productions from Argentina, the United States, Cuba, Brazil, Mexico and France on Wednesday.
“Winning the award would be the realization of the vision we have for our orchestra and our career,” Negret said.
The group’s album was named among the 20 best by Puerto Rico’s National Foundation for Popular Music in 2015.
