Taylor Swift wins Grammy album of the year for ‘1989’

U.S. singer Taylor Swift won album of the year at the 58th edition of the Grammy Awards, the main awards in the musical industry.

She bested Kendrick Lamar (To Pimp a Butterfly), The Weekend (Beauty Behind the Madness), Alabama Shakes (Sound & Color) and Chris Stapleton (Traveller).

Lamar was the most awarded artist Monday in Los Angeles, sweeping five awards including best rap album (To Pimp a Butterfly), best rap song and best rap performance (Alright), best rap collaboration (These Walls) and best video of the year for his collaboration with Taylor Swift in ‘Bad Blood’.

Swift also landed her third Grammy of the night for best pop vocal album (1989).
Other artists who triumphed tonight were the soul-rock band Alabama Shakes with three awards: best alternative music album (Sound & Color), best rock song and best rock performance (Don’t Wanna Fight).

English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran won two awards including song of the year for ‘Thinking Out Loud’.

Likewise, Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars received two awards including record of the year for the mega hit ‘Uptown Funk’.

Other artists who took home two Grammys were Little Big Town, The Weekend, D’Angelo, Jason Isbell and Chris Stapleton.

Meghan Trainor won new artist of the year and thanked for the award in tears.
