This year’s 76th Golden Globe awards are being hosted by funny man Andy Samberg and the sassy Sandra Oh, at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills California. These awards honor the best in Film and American television, as chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

NBC, the network bringing the Golden Globes to our living rooms, is also bringing the awards to its Facebook page. Thus, anyone with a Facebook account can watch a live stream of the awards. Nothing is impeding you from watching the awards tonight, not even if you are at work.

With so many superb actors with amazing roles being nominated, The Hollywood Foreign Press will have a difficult time deciding who will walk away with a trophy tonight. There are 25 categories at the Golden Globes, 14 trophies are handed out for film and 11 for television.

The Golden Globes are considered to be the kickoff of the annual Hollywood award season, building towards the Oscars. Since alcohol is served during the Ceremony, The Globes are considered to be less formal and more entertaining than any other award show.

Some of this year’s nominees are Black Panther, Bohemian Rhapsody and Vice (produced by Brad Pitt) in the category of Best Motion Picture. La Cumbre Mundial de la Salsa acknowledged the work of the best bands, dancers, producers, and singers of the genre; and also awarded those whom with their careers and example have supported the community in New York. From the beginning of the red carpet, the guests and the audience showed their love for salsa. The music was on, people from different nationalities were sharing their stories behind this genre and the theater was ready to start an excellent event.

Rícardo Ríos was the organizer, a person who works every day to show the world the best of the Latino community. The main sponsor was Exit Realty and the event had also the support of other important organizations such as La Cámara de Comercio Andina.

Great artists and dance groups made the audience sing and dance. On one hand, Mestizo, a group of young girls, showed us the moves of a good salsa dance, while the group Bachata Embassy highlighted the elegance of the Bachata genre. On the other hand, the audience was mesmerized with the voice of Melissa Macías who did her debut as a singer in New York City after her successful participation in La Voz Ecuador!. Other musicians that stole the admiration of the public were Skala Orquestra y Gilberto Velazquez. The hosts of the night were the talent MC Rai, Arleny Jakez, Siledra Sanz and Jaqkeline Maldonado.

Our journalist Sandra Escallón took home two awards given by the Cumbre Mundial de la Salsa and New York State Assembly as Journalist of the Year and one for her dedication to the community in New York City. We feel very happy to have one of our team members being recognized for her work.

There is no doubt that the second edition is going to be a main event in New York City.
