Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley and Jude Law are among the nearly 300 actors, musicians, writers and artists who have expressed their support for the United Kingdom remaining in the European Union ahead of the referendum on June 23.
In a letter published on Friday in the Daily Telegraph, 282 figures from the entertainment and arts industry said they believe that EU funding has been “vital” for cultural projects.
The signatories also include architect Richard Rogers, artist Tracey Emin, writer John le Carre, designer Vivienne Westwood, and directors Richard Curtis and Danny Boyle, among others.
“From the smallest gallery to the biggest blockbuster, many of us have worked on projects that would never have happened without EU funding or collaborating across borders,” the group said.
“Britain is not just stronger in the EU, it is more imaginative and creative. Our global creative success would be severely weakened by walking away.”
The letter was written in coordination with ‘Britain Stronger in Europe’, the official campaign that supports remaining in the EU.
