Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has approved the resolution from Dubai Executive Council on the collection of fees from passengers using Dubai airports’ facilities, the Emirates news agency, or WAM, announced on Wednesday.
Sheikh Hamdan, the chairman of Dubai Executive Council, endorsed the resolution, under which every passenger leaving the United Arab Emirates from any airports in Dubai, including transit passengers, will pay $9.5 as a service fee for using airport facilities.
According to WAM, the resolution exempts passengers under two years of age and cabin crew from paying such fees, in addition to transit passengers, who have the same arrival and departure flights.
Airlines operating in Dubai airports will be tasked with collecting the fees while issuing tickets, whether in the United Arab Emirates or outside the country.
The resolution is effective March 1st, 2016 for flights leaving Dubai’s airports after 30 June 2016.
“The collected fees will be transferred to Dubai Airports, and subsequently to the Dubai government public treasury,” WAM said.
This resolution aims to improve Dubai’s airport infrastructure, boost its capacity and support expansion projects.
