Host Jimmy Fallon Opens the Globes with a Parody
If you haven’t seen Damien Chazelle’s latest hit musical La La Land, then you might have been confused during Fallon’s genius opening of the Golden Globe Awards. Stars like Evan Rachel Wood, The Stranger Things cast, Amy Adams, and Ryan Reynolds are seen in this hilarious performance. Even Ryan Gosling couldn’t stop laughing. Without giving away any spoilers, let’s just say that the host’s cold open was the start of an exciting evening for all.
2. Diversity was Strongly Present This Year
At last, everyone in the room is being recognized for their talent, and not overlooked for their breath-taking performances. Donald Glover won 2 Golden Globes for Atlanta, Tracee Ellis Ross won her 1st Golden Globe for Best Actress in ABC comedy Black-ish, Viola Davis won for her work on Fences, and Moonlight received a Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama. Let’s not forget when Mexican actor Diego Luna said, “…y el Globo de Oro es para… you’ve got that, right?” Let’s all celebrate diversity!
3. Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds Tribute
Last year we lost a daughter and a mother whose great contributions to the world of entertainment will always be remembered. This tribute to Fisher and her mother Reynolds was emotional, as snippets of their many critically acclaimed roles in Hollywood were presented at the Golden Globes. Rest in Peace beautiful angels!
4. Viola Davis’ Compelling Meryl Streep Introduction
Viola Davis admires Meryl Streep for her work, and for being an extraordinary woman. She describes what it’s like to have someone “see you” and accept you for who you are. Davis’ speech was captivating and she directly tells Streep why she’s a huge inspiration. “You make me proud to be an artist. You make me feel that what I have in me — my body, my face, my age — is enough.” Don’t be surprised if soon, Davis is next in line for the Honorary Golden Globe Award.

As she was called on to the stage by Davis to receive her honorary award, everyone stood up to give Streep a standing ovation. She used this platform to speak up against the issues affecting our country today – especially calling out Trump’s disrespect against a disabled reporter. You can watch Streep’s speech here.
