Eugenio Derbez dedicates Hollywood star to his “Latino brothers”

A very emotional and grateful Eugenio Derbez on Thursday was presented with his star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame and dedicated it to the Latino public who has supported him throughout his acting career.
“To my people, to my Latinos, to my Latino brothers. Thanks for putting me where I am.

This star is thanks to you,” said the Mexican actor in his acceptance remarks.

“Thanks for your laughter, your love and, especially, for supporting me in this new adventure in the United States,” said Derbez.

Wearing a light blue suit and smiling the entire time, the 54-year-old actor blew kisses to the big crowd present at the ceremony, who – waving Mexican flags and assorted posters – kept cheering their idol throughout the presentation.

“We already have papers!” shouted Derbez ironically when he received a certificate from the City of Los Angeles awarding him the star on the Walk of Fame.

Derbez, who is one of the most well-known voices within the Latino community in the United States, told the crowd on Thursday that his mother took him to the movies as a boy and that “pastime” later turned into his “passion.”

He also said that good stories make the public feel one emotion after another: sadness, fear and happiness.

“I was probably 10 when I told my mother: ‘This is what I want to do when I grow up. I want to be a storyteller,'” he said.

The star of “Instructions Not Included” (2013), who next week will see the screening of his latest film, “Miracles from Heaven,” also dedicated his star to all the professionals who have worked with him both in Mexico and in the United States.
