Hispanicize 2016 emphasizes power of Latinos as a group

Hispanicize, the country’s largest Hispanic media conference, is kicking off in Miami with the aim of saying loud and clear that Latinos, today more than ever, have power as a group.

In its seventh edition, the conference gathers Latino talent from industries as diverse as the film and entertainment sector, online platforms, journalism, marketing and technology and will run until Friday with an expected 3,000 participants, according to organizers.

This year the theme of the conference is “Power in Unity,” because “we Latinos, nowadays more than ever, have to be united to demonstrate our true power in this country,” conference founder Manny Ruiz.

“Hispanicize has always been an event at which we tell the positive stories of Hispanics. Our aim is to inspire and empower the community and make the big brands know that they want to work with us,” he said.

However, Ruiz said, “what we’re experiencing now in the election campaign with the ongoing attack on Latinos leads us to make a statement and say that we have power, if we unite,” he emphasized.

The Cuban-American businessman said that it’s not that the conference now has a political coloring, but rather that it will be the place to begin a discussion about the urgent need for Latinos to unite, despite their differences, and respond with the power of being a community of more than 54 million people with purchasing power exceeding $1.5 trillion.

“The power of Latinos is talked about, but we must learn to exercise that voice we have.

We’ve seen it many times, but in this election campaign the Latino community has not only been insulted and diminished but also ignored. So, power in unity is so important,” he added.

Ruiz said that during the conference, a “plan that shows the road to unity” will be unveiled.

“The tendency we Latinos have is to believe that politicians will solve our problems, but until we’re united we won’t have any way to show that power. That’s what we want to contribute in this conference,” he said.
