Barcelona striker Lionel Messi came closer to soccer legend Gabriel Batistuta’s goal record for Argentina, with the 50th goal scored for his country against Bolivia on Tuesday night, the BBC reported.
Messi scored his 50th goal for Argentina in the 2-0 win over Bolivia in the World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday, bringing the gap between him and the record of the former Fiorentina and Roma star, who scored 56 goals for his country, to just six.
“I’m happy with goal number 50 but more because we won and this helps to keep growing,” said Messi quoted by the BBC.
Messi, five-time winner of Ballon d’Or, is the highest scorer in Barcelona’s history, with 449 goals in all competitions.
