The Spanish interior ministry have announced that security personnel will be sent to France to join forces with French authorities to secure Euro 2016.
In a press conference, Spain’s acting Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz said Spanish personnel will accompany fans during the Spanish national team’s matches in the tournament.
He stressed that Spain will strengthen border controls and bilateral cooperation particularly in the coming weeks to ensure the European championship will be held safely.
Diaz added that Euro 2016, which will be held from June 10 to July 10 in France, and World Youth Day, from July 26 and July 31 in Poland, will be a “special and unique opportunity” for terrorists to launch attacks.
