A neurological experiment was conducted on Saturday during the Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid to measure the emotions felt by two fans of both teams, in which more than 195,000 emotional reactions as well as six million physiological reactions were recorded for each fan.
The “Emotions Index” experiment was carried out by the OgilvyOne Barcelona and BitBrain companies in a program of Catalan regional television channel TV3, in which journalist and Barca fan Joan Beumala and colleague Real Madrid supporter Siro Lopez were the subjects of the experiment.
Those responsible of carrying out the experiment reported that both journalists watched the game as they had devices attached to their heads and hands while they wore special glasses; elements that allowed measuring the electrical activity while recording emotional and cognitive reactions.
The study showed that both fans experienced greater emotional intensity with goals scored against their teams than with goals scored against rivals.
Furthermore, the most intense emotional reaction was recorded specifically in 84 minutes, when Cristiano Ronaldo scored the late winning goal for Real Madrid.
For the Merengues fan, emotions of joy and happiness were recorded, unlike the Barcelona fan, who experienced emotions of indignation and frustration.
