German Formula One driver Nico Rosberg of Mercedes AMG F1 team has boosted his lead in the F1 Drivers’ World Championship on Sunday after winning the 2016 Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix at the Sakhir circuit near Manama.
Rosberg, runner up of the last two seasons, won ahead of Finland’s Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari, while Mercedes UK teammate Lewis Hamilton came third.
Currently, Rosberg is leading the F1 Drivers’ World Championship with 50 points, and 17 points ahead of Hamilton before the 2016 Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.
Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo of team Red Bull came in fourth place, followed by Haas French driver Romain Grosjean, who participates for the first time in the Bahraini race.
Two-time Spanish world champion Fernando Alonso of team McLaren did not participate in Sunday’s race after failure to pass medical tests following the accident he had during the Australian Grand Prix.
