John Lennon’s lock of hair sells for $35,000 at Texas auction

A British collector has bought a lock of hair belonging to John Lennon for $35,000, triple the price expected, according to the Dallas, Texas-based Heritage Auction company on Monday.
The British collector, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the 10-centimeter (nearly 4-inch) lock of hair over the weekend.

“This is the largest lock of John Lennon’s hair ever offered at an auction,” said Garry Shrum, Heritage’s director of music memorabilia as reported by the Dallas Morning News.

According to Shrum, the hair “comes from a very important time in Lennon’s career”.

Lennon was preparing to star in the 1966 film “How I Won the War” when German barber Klaus Baruck trimmed his hair and kept it, just one month after the release of the album “Revolver”.

At the auction, a signed photograph of the Beatles was also offered up and fetched $42,500 while an unused ticket from the Beatles’ first United States concert – held in Washington DC in 1964 – garnered as much as $30,000.
